Flow 5: Journal Entry

  • Updated

This final flow finds payouts that have completed both the Transaction Summary and Fee Summary steps and creates the Journal Entry that moves funds from the Stripe clearing accounts to your payout bank account, including fees and adjustments. The JE is linked to the originating Payout Summary.

Which payouts are eligible

Payouts in the ready for journal entry processing state with both Transaction Summary and Fee Summary marked as created.

How JE lines are built

  • Transaction Summary lines. Each summary becomes one JE line. The account comes from a lookup mapping by transaction type (for example charge, refund, transfer, fee, adjustment), and the transaction type is written to the line memo.
  • Fee Summary lines. Each fee summary becomes a debit to your Stripe fee expense account, with the fee type as the memo.
  • Debit or credit. A summarized amount below zero is posted as a debit (its absolute value). An amount of zero or more is posted as a credit.

The account IDs in the lookup mapping are specific to your NetSuite account. Set each transaction type to the account you want it posted to.

Example

A payout with charges of $1,000, refunds of −$100, an adjustment of −$25, and a Stripe fee of $35 produces:
